Therapy For the Speech Impediment Stammering

General No Comments »

What are the  latest treatments for stammering ? Which are the stammering therapies that actually work? Are there any stammering therapies that are run by people who have managed to overcome a stammer? These are the types of questions that I am asked on a regular basis and I will be answering them in this article.

The latest therapies for stammering

Over the last decade  therapies and treatments for stammering  have improved in a big way. The days when the only form of treatment was via the local speech and language therapist are well behind us, thankfully!

By far and away the most beneficial and therefore popular of these therapies comes in the form of an  intensive speech course for stammering . These are not your typical courses but are what are called "specialist coaching for stammering and stuttering". The main course is held over a five-day period however there are also a weekend and a three-day course available. Read the rest of this entry »

Speech Therapy Courses For Stuttering and Stammering

General No Comments »

This article will provide information about the ever popular one-to-one stuttering therapy courses. This will include info about the content of the course, the length of the courses and also about the availability of the speech course.

Over the last fifteen years treatments for the speech impediment known as stuttering or stammering have improved tremendously. Prior to this time the only real form of stuttering and stammering therapy came via a person’s local speech and language therapist. Unfortunately, as the majority of people who have a stammer or stutter will tell you, speech therapy is unable to provide the answers people are looking for with the speech therapists fully acknowledging that they are unable to coach people to fluency. Their advice instead focuses on a form of acceptance to the fact that a person has this form of speech impediment. They believe that if a person is able to accept that they have a stutter that their lives will improve and become far easier! Well they are entitled to their opinion I suppose.

I was one person who was never ever going to accept the stutter that was damaging my life in such a massive way. After eighteen very difficult years of having a stutter I finally managed to achieve total fluency at the age of twenty-two. Read the rest of this entry »

Stammering And Stuttering Therapy Options

Stammering And Stuttering Therapy Options

Do you have a stammer or stutter? Are you searching for the latest therapy options for stammering and stuttering? If you have answered yes to both of these questions then this article may well be of interest to you. I will be writing about my experiences of speech therapy, I had a stutter for eighteen years, and about the most popular treatments that are currently available for people who have a stammer or stutter.

I attended the more traditional forms of speech therapy on a regular basis during the period that I had a stutter. To be truthful with you I was less than impressed with the advice that I was provided with and was often left frustrated at my lack of progress. The speech therapists seemed to have a lack of understanding of this type of speech impediment and at times looked at me as if I was crazy! For example I attempted to explain to one such speech therapist about the issues that I had when ordering drinks at a bar. The fear beforehand, hoping that there would not be a queue, pointing to the specific drink, the speech therapist looked at me as if I was living on a different planet!

These stuttering cure courses have proven to be extremely beneficial to a large number of people and they have been featured in the national press and on the television.

There is normally a three-four month waiting period to attend the course due to its popularity however there are self-help products such as a DVD and e-book that people can watch and read whilst awaiting their course date to arrive.

Trying To Find Help For Stuttering?

Trying To Find Help For Stuttering?

Do you want help for stuttering? If the answer was yes, then you are reading the right article!. As a previous stutterer also, I understand first hand, how tough it may be attempting to seek help for stuttering and not having much success looking for it! The internet is a vast domain of digital info, alas it looks like help for stuttering might be one field that it seems to be deficient in.

In this article, I’d like to share with everyone a few tips that were of help to me in reducing my stuttering.

1.) Prior to you beginning to speak, try taking a slow and deep breath. I understand that this is easier said then applied, but try your best to avoid worrying that you may stutter. Truth be told, the more often you worry about it, the more you will find yourself stuttering.

2.) I’m sure you’ve watched the news before, and noticed how those TV anchors speak in a low tone from the chest and emphasize every syllable? You may find this silly, but I actually tried imitating this and found that I tended to stutter less. Later on, I realized that this is no coincidence. By taking the sound away from our problem areas, which happens to be our vocal chords and mouth, stutterers will stutter less often.

3.) The next time you say want to say something, take a quick second and rehearse what you are about to say in your mind before you begin to say it out loud.

These 3 tips, helped me to get my stuttering issue under control.
Help for stuttering is difficult to find, these  if applied conscientiously will assist you in reducing your stuttering greatly. However, it should be noted that this is not a complete stuttering cure.

3 Treatments For Stuttering

General No Comments »

Over 3% of the American population has a stuttering problem. If you tend to stutter, it is important to realize that you are not alone. Stuttering is a treatable speech impairment, and you should not feel that there is no hope or that there is nothing that you can do about it. If my personal story can help you feel some reassurance, I stuttered severely throughout most of my life. However, I never gave up on trying to improve my fluency and was eventually able to learn how to stop stuttering. I am going to explain and help you become familiar with some of the treatments for stuttering available to you.

By the time you finish reading this article, you will have a better idea of what your options are for treatments and hopefully will be able to decide what option is right for you.

1.) Therapy For Stuttering: Therapy is probably the most common form, out of all the treatments for stuttering available. It is most effective if started at a young age, to correct stuttering at it’s early development. However, many adults who start therapy are still able to at least significantly reduce their stuttering if unable to cure it entirely.

2.) Drug Therapy: Drug therapy is becoming an increasingly more popular form of treatment. This is one method that I don’t like and advise you to use only as a last resort. Despite it’s growing popularity, it is widely considered ineffective. The FDA has yet to actually approve any drug specifically for the use of treating stuttering. Most of the drugs prescribed for this purpose, are actually for anxiety or depression.

3.) Stuttering Devices: The use of stuttering devices, is by far the newest out of all the treatments for stuttering. It seems that many people seem to claim that these devices do in fact work. However, this is not to be considered an actual cure because if you stop using the device you will continue to stutter again. Also, the price tag on these devices are around $2,000-$3,000.

I hope you have found this article helpful, and have a better idea of the

What Are The Causes Of Stuttering?

General No Comments »

One question that I am asked on a frequent basis is:

What causes people to develop a stutter?

I ask a similar question to the people who contact me with regards to helping them eradicate their speech impediment.

Have you any idea as to why you developed a stutter?

The answers are very varied. The most common is the belief that they think it runs in the family, many people have a parent and also grandparent who also have or had a stutter.

Other causes include:

They developed a stutter in reaction to a major shock, a car crash for example.

They developed a stutter due to a family break up.

They developed a stutter due to an over-aggressive teacher.

They developed a stutter due to bullying.

They developed a stutter due to a mental break down.

They developed a stutter due to a stroke.

There are also those who have absolutely no idea as to why they developed a speech impediment.

I personally preferred to concentrate on finding a cure for stuttering rather than look for the causes of stuttering, that is just me I guess.

Where possible it can be of benefit to find what caused the stutter in the first place however the main focus, in my opinion should be spent on working hard to eliminate the stutter.

Learn How To Stop Stuttering In No Time!

General No Comments »

As a individual that had dealt with a tendency of stuttering nearly my entire life, I understand completely how hard it can be. If you would like to discover how to stop stuttering , then this article is worth reading. The most crucial thing when attempting to learn how to stop stuttering, is to not give up trying to better your ability to speak. Each time you happen to stutter, don’t let it admonish you from speaking. Speaking and conversing with others, is the primary method for you to practice.

If you attempt to keep off talking altogether, because you find yourself feeling too uneasy or abashed of your stuttering, it will only make things harder. The more you practice talking, you will discover yourself feeling more easy and positive. In effect, you will notice you won’t stutter as often.

By forcing myself to talk every chance I found, this helped me learn how to stop stuttering. Here are some other techniques that were of great help to me as well:

1.) Try beginning your day with some peaceful meditation. You don’t have to make this a big deal or anything. See if you can’t find 5-10 minutes to set aside for a brief meditation session. You will find yourself feeling more relaxed and at ease, which will effectively  while talking throughout the day.

2. The next time you want to say something, try taking a deep breath first. Take a second to gather your thoughts mentally before you say it out loud. Quite often, stuttering happens because your mouth is getting ahead of your thought process, and your mind is trying to catch up.

Try and give this a try, it helped me a lot and I’m sure it will help you too.

Stuttering Treatment Programs That Work

General No Comments »

Stuttering and stammering is a form of speech impediment that is known to affect around one percent of the population. Approximately seventy percent of people who suffer with a stammer/stutter are male. Treatment programs vary in terms of cost, quality and availability. In this article I will be writing about only the best, stuttering therapy programs that work.

So what about speech therapy; is this a form of successful stuttering treatment, yes or no? No. I was one of those unfortunate males that developed a stutter in early childhood. I attended speech therapy for thirteen years, yes thirteen years! Did this therapy prove to be beneficial? No way, the speech impediment actually became even more severe.

Tips To Cure Stuttering And Stammering

Are you looking to find tips and tricks to cure stuttering? Are you determined to overcome your stutter once and for all? Is your stutter ruining your life? These are questions which I would have answered in the positive when I was aged twenty-two. I had been stuttering for eighteen years at this stage and had had just about as much as I could take. I was desperate to find a solution to my stuttering problems as I just knew that my life would improve one hundred percent if I could manage to achieve fluency.

I had tried numerous forms of treatments for stuttering including the more traditional forms of speech therapy. These, as you can no doubt tell, were not to prove beneficial and therefore my frustration continued.
